Antique Italian Ren Revival Carved Walnut Hall Bench w/ Storage 19th C, 1800s!!
An elegant late 19th-century Italian Renaissance Revival hall bench, beautifully handcrafted in richly figured walnut with finely executed architectural carving throughout. Combining decorative artistry with practical storage, this handsome bench makes an outstanding statement in an entry hall, library, or formal interior. The impressive back is crowned by a scrolling crest centered with a carved shell motif above three raised panels. The central panel features an exquisitely carved mythological winged creature amid flowing foliate scrollwork, while the flanking panels are adorned with richly carved floral ornament.
The boldly scrolled arms incorporate carved grotesque mask supports above lion-head terminals, lending the bench the dramatic character associated with Italian Renaissance design. Beneath the seat is a spacious storage compartment accessed by a hinged lift seat, making the piece as functional as it is decorative.
The lower case is further embellished with carved scrolling ornament and raised panels, all supported by sturdy block and volute feet.
