This substantial commemorative plaque is constructed as a shield-form trophy mounted on a solid oak backboard, centered by a cast and gilt metal escutcheon. The shield is surmounted by a heraldic crest featuring a knight’s helmet, mantling, and armorial bearings, all rendered in high relief with blackened and gilt detailing. Beneath the crest is a scroll bearing a Latin motto, reinforcing the academic and heraldic character of the piece.

The main shield is fitted with a series of horizontal brass nameplates, originally intended to record annual winners or honorees. The engraved title reads “The Rixon House Shield 1928,” with later engraved dates including 1957 and 1959, indicating continued use over several decades. The surface shows an attractive aged patina consistent with long-term institutional display.
