A remarkable antique wooden strongbox completely sheathed in hand-forged iron and reinforced throughout with riveted iron strapping. Featuring an elaborate pierced iron lockplate, heavy twist-key locking mechanism with key, dual front hasps for padlocks, substantial wrought iron side carrying handles, and a lift ring mounted to the top.

This imposing chest has the unmistakable appearance of an Old West strongbox or treasure chest and would make an outstanding statement piece in a Western, medieval, Spanish Colonial, or industrial interior. Originally built for the secure storage of valuables, documents, or money, its rugged construction reflects the craftsmanship and security requirements of the period.

This example comes from the lifelong collection of Thomas J. Watson Jr., former IBM Chairman and CEO, and his daughter Olive F. Watson, adding notable provenance to an already exceptional piece.
